Welcome to Saugatuck Wooden Boat Cruises

Monday, April 29th, 2013

Starting in June this year we will be offering fun and relaxing cruises aboard “Darwin”, a 28′ wooden houseboat built in Kalamazoo Michigan by me, Chris Carr. For years growing up and living in West Michigan I enjoyed walking along the boardwalks, piers, and beaches of Lake Michigan. It was great, but I always found myself looking at the boats going by and wishing I was out on the water. So about seven years ago I decided to build my own boat and get out there. After looking at hundreds of designs, I chose one by George Buehler called “RiverWalker”. I started with the stock plans, but quickly began modifying things to get the boat that I wanted. First, I made it longer, then narrower, then I lost the plans and just built what I wanted. The boat you see in the pictures is the result.

After enjoying it for the last two years, I’ve decided that other people should be able to enjoy it, and the views from the water, as well. That’s where Saugatuck Wooden Boat Cruises comes from.
